#standup2hatespeech

#standup2hatespeech is a training course coordinated by Per Esempio Onlus that will take place in Palermo (Italy) from 20th to 25th May 2019. It will provide 21 youth workers coming from 7 different European countries with efficient tools to combat and prevent hate speech.

The “hate speech” indicates a type of speech that has no other function than to express hatred and intolerance. It consists in an explicit offence based on feelings of discrimination against a person or a group of people. Its goal is not simply to cause harm to the individual, but to destroy the victim’s identity and, at the same time, the social group of reference’s one.

General objective of this project is to fight against all forms of discrimination and human rights violation as well as extremism and hate speech online. On this purpose, non formal education activities will be carried out to involve participants – youth workers over 25 – and make them aware of the importance of dialogue and respect of rights. They will also be trained to develop a “counter speech”.

A final video about counter speech practices will be the final output of the training course.
